Some books sneak up on you.

Love Deal certainly did.

I knew Obi Lockhart was getting his own story long before I knew what it was actually going to be about. Somewhere along the way he quietly became one of my favorite heroes. Not because he’s the loudest brother (he definitely isn’t), or because he’s the funniest (although… he tries), but because he’s the one who’s spent his entire life loving someone without ever asking for anything in return.

Then there was Jessie.

Poor Jessie.

She’d been carrying around exactly the same secret.

For twenty years.

That’s the heart of Love Deal.

Two people who have been hopelessly in love with each other since they were children… each convinced the other only wanted friendship.

Talk about frustrating.

For them.

For me.

For everyone reading the book.

Of course, this is Pinkerton Falls, so simply putting two lifelong best friends together wasn’t nearly enough trouble.

Obi decides to renovate an abandoned church into the restaurant he’s dreamed about since he was a kid.

Naturally, half the town has opinions.

The other half has questions.

And somewhere in the middle…

There might be a ghost.

Or maybe a poltergeist.

Or maybe just enough unexplained late-night crashes to convince Obi he’s losing his mind.

Throw in meddling matchmakers, comfort food, pies worthy of their own fan club, a dangerous man who refuses to let Jessie move on with her life, and one of my favorite grand opening scenes I’ve ever written, and Love Deal became something much bigger than I expected.

It’s a story about first love.

Second chances.

Dreams that take decades to build.

And discovering that sometimes your soulmate has been standing beside you since kindergarten.

If you’ve been waiting for Obi’s story, I hope it makes you laugh, cry, yell at the characters a little (they deserve it), and leave you believing that some loves are simply worth waiting for.
